Abstract

Historically the craft works produced by women in their own homes have been excluded from the books of design history. The evolution of gender studies forces us to pay attention to these works, often produced in collaboration with others or collectively.

This paper offers an approach to the creative and collaborative work that the bookbinder Adina Amenedo and the designer Mauricio Amster carried out in Chile after their arrival in 1939. In tackling the cultural exchange between exiles and Chileans, this article analyzes the short story “La Copia” by José Santos González Vera, exposing a vital relationship between the author, Amenedo and Amster.

The research reveals an interesting dialogue between crafts and design, visual and textual representations and different creative actors involved in the books.
