Abstract
This paper explores and discusses tools and methodologies associated with the recovery of industrial environments from the perspective of its territorial and urban scope. The analysis focuses on describing the theoretical foundations that define the reality of a specific industrial reality, using the study case of Valdivia.
From a perspective that emphasizes the capacities of the cities of intermediate scale as resilient urban environments that support the changes derived from deindustrializing processes, a contemporary recovery tool is contextualized. In the first place, this article presents a framework of global perspective where the industrial and geographical antecedents are pointed out, in order to later define the essential aspects and arguments regarding memory, territory and society. Finally, the challenges and opportunities derived from the contextual approach of the proposed working instrument are explored.
