Author Guidelines

Revista 180 publishes permanent sections (articles, editorials) and occasional ones (reviews, dossiers). Manuscripts must be original and unpublished, and submitted in either Spanish or English.

Article and review submissions are accepted continuously throughout the year exclusively via the journal’s website (www.revista180.cl).

Manuscripts should range from 4.000 to 6.000 words as maximum in the case of articles (this including footnotes and excluding abstract, keywords and references), and there is a maximum of 1.000 words for reviews. The manuscripts must present a clear structure and redaction. The texts must be submitted in a Word document, in letter size and in Arial 11pt, with a spacing of 1.15. The file must be named “manuscript” and it should weight no more than 8 MB.

The first page of the manuscript must include the title, abstract (between 150 and 300 words) and keywords (3 to 5 words separated by a semi colon and in alphabetical order) in both Spanish and English. The abstract must synthetize the objectives, methodology and the primary conclusions of the work.

Footnotes should only be the indispensables, placed at the bottom of each page and not include bibliographical references.

There will be two levels of hierarchy of subtitles: one in small caps black and the other one in italics (neither should be numbered). In case of words in other languages distinct from the manuscript’s original they should be in italic. Acronyms need to be indicated by their full equivalence on its first use.

Figures

Figures
The text must include figures. Figures may include images, photographs, drawings, graphics, and must be sent separately in JPG or TIFF formats, with a minimum size of 20x30 cm and a resolution of 300 dpi. Drawings should additionally be submitted in EPS or AI format. Tables should be submitted in AI or Excel format.

Figures must be labeled with the word “Figure,” numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals, and explicitly referenced in the text (e.g., Figure 5). When necessary, figures must include measurement units. Each figure must include a title and full source information. Sources for figures must comply with APA standards, and should provide the following information:

  • For figures from documentary records: author, year of publication, title of the publication, city, publisher, and the page where the image appears. If from an electronic source, the exact web address must also be provided.
  • For photographs: the photographer’s name or the stock photo source.
  • For artworks: author’s name, year, title of the work, type of work, city, museum, or collection.
  • For images published in the press: author and article title (if applicable), publication name (newspaper or magazine), section, date, and page number. If taken from an online version, the exact web address must also be included.
  • For figures (graphs, maps, drawings, simulations, collages, etc.) and tables created by the authors, they should be labeled as “own elaboration.”

A maximum of 10 figures or tables and a minimum of 4 may be submitted. Figures must have the proper authorization for publication. Revista 180 assumes no responsibility for intellectual property rights. Figures should be inserted into the manuscript (low resolution) and also submitted separately in high resolution (for images) or in editable files (for maps, drawings, diagrams, tables). The files should be named “Figure 1,” “Figure 2,” etc., and each file must not exceed 8 MB.

Quotes and bibliographic references

Citations and bibliographic references must follow APA (American Psychological Association) style. References must appear at the end of the article, listed alphabetically. When multiple references by the same author are included, they must be ordered chronologically, from the oldest to the most recent. DOIs must be included whenever available; they can be retrieved from crossref.org. Only references cited in the text should be included in the bibliography.

Articles must meet the following requirements for citations and references:
i) At least 50% must come from mainstream journals (Web of Science, Scopus, Scielo);
ii) At least 30% must be from the last 7 years;
iii) Self-citations must not exceed 35%.

Citations
In the case of direct quotations, the author, year, and page(s) of the citation must be indicated in parentheses, for example: (Fernández, 2016, p. 356). All direct quotations must be enclosed in quotation marks.

The format for in-text reference citations is as follows:

  • Mardones (2015) compared the flows…
